Shock Absorbers (Shocks) & Suspension

There are several basic varieties of the suspension. The two most common are those that have coil springs between the lower control arms and the frame, and those that have coil springs over the upper control arms. On the type that has the coil spring between the lower control arm and the frame, the vehicle load is carried by the lower ball joint. On those that have coil springs over the upper control arms, the vehicle load is carried by the upper ball joint.

There are two other types of SLA suspensions that are less common. One type has a composite transverse leaf spring between the lower control arms on both sides. A second type has torsion bars attached to the controls arms. In both types, the load is carried by the lower ball joint. Fast Tire repairs all types of suspensions on cars and light trucks.
